Improved Boys Dorm
Amazing Love School was founded in 2008 by Rotarian Saturday James to provide education to children in his village.
Due to the AIDS epidemic which severely hit Uganda, many children became orphans. Additionally, due to the great poverty which exists, many families cannot afford the school fees required for admission to primary school. For many diverse reasons, children are abandoned or forced due to circumstances to become street kids. To date, 48 street kids have made the transition from the street to the school,
Having been orphaned at an early age, Saturday James was able to attend school due to the generosity of an overseas donor who paid his school fees. He was determined to return this favour to the community. He saved from his salary about 50 cents USD per hour, a large percentage in Ugandan terms, for every hour he worked for 6 years in order to buy land, build housing and school facilities to educate as many children as possible. Currently 209 children are enrolled from Nursery to Primary 7. These children are fed 5 meals a day and are provided with school uniforms, school supplies, books, and boarding if required.
The ethos of Amazing Love School is to help the needy, specifically the vulnerable and marginalised people, such as the orphans and the poor in their communities, by offering them affordable, relevant and quality education to break the cycle of poverty .
The challenges this school faces are large but the determination to succeed is immense.
March 2026
Work has commenced in the construction of a 7 classroom, multipurpose hall which will be used for dining and holding school assemblies and adminstrative offices. The site on which the building is being built is on a slope meaning that it will be on two levels.
The work will be undertaken in 2 phases:-
Phase 1 ( ground floor ) with 5 classrooms (Expected to be completed - April 2026)
Phase 2 ( first floor ) shall have 2 classrooms , offices and a multipurpose hall.
The end result will be transformational, the old wooden classrooms which the new ones will replace will mean that pupils will be educated in much better conditions which are winf and water tight as well as being much more condusive for learning.
February 2026
Conscious that it is essential children learn computer skills, we are a delighted that a 15 computer classroom is now in place. The equipment provided is robust and of a high quality to ensure reliability.
The new facility will allow the children to be taught computer skiils which will be so essential for them to have both in the present and the future
June 2024
The Budge Foundation continues to support this school which delivers education to the most impoverished and vulnerable in the area in which it operates.
To allow the recruitment and retention of teachers, a 3 year financial uplift support package has been funded, allowing the school to pay teachers and support staff at a higher level than would otherwise been possible. This funding is already delivering results.
In addition, funding has been made available for the purchase of textbooks, computers, sporting equipment and basic musical instruments. We want the children's education to be greater than just scholastic.
Funding has also been provided for the purchase of 2 sewing machines and crocheting machines which will be used to make affoitdable school unforms.
To ensure the educational qualiofications are in compliance with the regulations introduced by the Ugandan Government funding for 2 teachers to attend university, on a part time basis, to obtain degress, has been provided for.
It is our belief that providing a wider support package will be hugely beneficial as well as being motivational for children and staff alike.
March 2017
We are delighted that the school director, board of management, PTA and parents have worked together to improve the boys dormitory and assemby hall. This is great to see everybody sharing the same dream that their school should be the best possible.
May 2016
The Girls Dormitory is complete, together with female staff accommodation, flushing toilets, showers and a revamped medical centre. We are delighted at the end product and know this will make such a difference to the living conditions of staff and children alike.
October 2015
We have agreed to underwrite the cost of a 52 bed girl dormitory block. In addition showers and flush toilets will be provided.
The current dormitories see 4 children to a bunk bed, no mosquito protection and poor sanitation.
Portlethen Rotary Club have already arranged a District Grant for £4000 and additional funding of £2000 from their own club. It is hoped that other Rotary clubs will become involved in this project and in the end matched funding will be achieved in the total building cost of £30,000
September 2015
The classrooms are now complete.
The School Council has advised us that the effect on staff and pupils of being able to use high quality buildings has been hugely positive.
April 2015
We are delighted and excited that building of a 4 classroom block has commenced. The Budge Foundation has funded the whole project, the local management of the building being undertaken by Kabale Rotary Club to whom we are extremely indebted for their massive assistance.
The existing buildings at Amazing Love School are of inferior construction and we hope this current development will demonstrate to local people that the outstanding School Director, fantastic teachers and great support staff are working in a school which has an exciting
future.
It is difficult to see from the photographs how steep the hill is upon which the new classroom block is being built. The initial work has centred on building a level structure on which to build.
It is great now to see that the initial construction work has been completed and now we are seeing the walls rising.
